The Mo’Kelly Show, which airs Saturdays and Sundays on KFI AM640 in Los Angeles was honored last night with an award from the Los Angeles Press Club at the 58th annual Southern California Journalism Awards for the B.B. King tribute “Saying Goodbye to B.B. King” which aired in the days following the passing of the blues legend.

The award was for best “Obituary/In Memoriam/In Appreciation (Any Platform) and competed against the best in radio, TV, print and online.  Without a doubt, this was one of the proudest yet humbling experiences in my career.  Acknowledgment is always nice…but being recognized among peers for the quality of work is special.  Right now, I’m overjoyed and over the moon.

Award

Thank you to KFI Program Director Robin Bertolucci, for without her there is and would have never been any “Mo’Kelly Show” to begin with.  Thank you to Tim Conway Jr. who has been bar none, my biggest individual supporter since I’ve been in radio.  Nobody has been more supportive on a day-to-day basis both privately and publicly in this profession than Tim.  He has time and time again opened up his show to make a place for me on and off the air.  Everyone needs an advocate in this business.  But Tim Conway Jr. has been a special one.

Thank you to Tawala Sharp, whose vision and direction are inseparable to the growth of what we do, every single time I open up the mic.  Thank you to (Bill Handel Executive Producer) Michelle Kube Kelly and (KFI Operations Manager) Mike Schaefer, for if you did not hire me; this is all moot.  And no, I will not stop thanking you both.

Talk radio can be smarter, it can be less antagonistic, it can even be beautiful musically.  Thank you all for the opportunity to show exactly what I mean and what to me, it sounds like.

Onward and upward
