Commentary News — 12 February 2016

Clearly, the effort is being made to “diversify” the optics in terms of the visual presentation of the 88th edition of the awards show.

Whereas I understand the Academy is trying to soften the show edges as they relate to the debate surrounding the Oscars; this is not anything I can support. I mean, why not have all-Black seat-fillers?  Or have a rainbow coalition of Oscar escorts to and from the podium?  I mean, since it’s only about the optics and not the actual awards…

This probably will not turn out well.  There likely will be plenty “statements” made by presenters, but it will do nothing to address the core complaints.  The best statements are to be made off-air, by Academy membership in changing its normative voting values.  But hey, the Academy will have to figure it out on their own.  This year’s program is produced by David Hill and Reginald Hudlin; Hudlin is African-American.

Story HERE.

As a refresher, below are my thoughts about the Academy Awards before assumptions are made.
