After three years, the Public Radio International program Smiley & West, featuring Tavis Smiley and Dr. Cornel West will be no more as of December 27, 2013.

Here is some backstory…

Originally the Smiley & West program replaced the second hour of The Tavis Smiley Show, segmenting the two-hour time slot into two different programs.  Doing so allowed instant carriage on the majority of stations which already aired The Tavis Smiley Show (without having to earn its way on to stations).

The resulting product and controversies have been well-chronicled.  A likely scenario evolved in which to avoid losing stations which carried The Tavis Smiley Show the decision was made to end Smiley & West.

Meaning…when you read a published report that The Tavis Smiley Show is “expanding” (wink, wink) to two hours…realize it is the same as your boss forcing you to take a pay cut and then saying he gave you a raise if/when he returns you to your original pay.

This eventuality should surprise absolutely nobody.  Should

Yes, The Tavis Smiley Show is “expanding” to two hours…(wink, wink).
