ABC has been flooded with emails both in support and complaint of the dialogue regarding Rick Perry’s hunting grounds moniker.
Co-hosts Sherri Shepherd and Barbara Walters got into a long, drawn-out exchange over the why, when and how the use of the N-word, relative to context and orator can be offensive.
Anyone who knows Mo’Kelly knows where I stand.
Do you think there would be any debate over the use of the Italian, Jewish or Latino equivalents?
Of course not. The word has no place in our society. Despite what Whoopi Goldberg argues that young people have “done” to “sterilize” the word, all it takes is one news report and we’re back to square one. That’s all the proof Mo’Kelly needs.
It doesn’t need to be sterilized, it needs to be laid to rest altogether. It has no purpose in our consciousness, our music, our movies or our politics.
Let’s not parse the discussion any further. But Mo’Kelly will say…it’s always nice when people like Sherri Shepherd are willing to go to bat for “us” even when it may not be popular to do so. It was noticed, noted and in many ways needed.
