Florida Megachurch pastor was found dead in a New York City hotel room.

Zachery Tims

That is the “sad” part.  Of course you have all heard the news by now.  Mo’Kelly wanted to wait to see how this would all play out before commenting.  Maybe it was just an unfortunate event of someone being called home long before anyone in this life expected him to be.

People do die young naturally.  It happens.

but no…not this time, not naturally at least.

When a spiritual leader passes it throws his/her congregation into tumult on ecumenical and spiritual levels.

That too is the sad part.

Now as more details have emerged, Tims’ death seems less like a surprise and more an eventuality.  Tims did have a criminal history connected to drugs prior to becoming a pastor.

Tims was of questionable decision-making given his year-long affair with a STRIPPER, leading to the end of his marriage.

At this point, news outlets have reported that Tims was found with an unidentified “narcotic” on his person.  If Black megachurches were hoping for some positive news in light of the last year of Bishop Eddie Long, they won’t find it with Zachery Tims.

Real bad way to exit.

Nobody wants the public obituary of their pastor replete with recent connections to drugs and strippers.  Yet if there is any common thread between Long and Tims, it is in the fact that the membership and leadership of both churches must have been aware of the transgressions of their spiritual leader prior to the news revelation.  Tims didn’t end up dead in a hotel room because of a singular event, but because of a chain events leading up to now.

Someone or even many knew about the demons being dealt with by Tims.  Nevertheless, Tims’ defenders have spent more time and energy trying to protect his memory and ministry’s livelihood, instead of helping the man while he was still alive.

The reality is that more unflattering details are likely to emerge; more unfortunate truths surrounding Tims’ lifestyle are on the way.  There was probably a long history of drug abuse while pastor.  There likely was more than just “one” stripper connected to Tims.  If you think Tims just happened to hook up with the first and only stripper he crossed paths with and that path was at the grocery store and not in the Champagne Room…you are still a fool.

The New Destiny Christian Center should be allowed time to heal from its loss.  But eventually, it will need to be honest with its members and the larger public as to the truth about its now former pastor.
